Big Purple Guy Kills Half of the Universe

Avengers Infinity War

Avengers Infinity War is the first avengers movie to feature Thanos as the new villain and basically just sets up for the final battle in Avengers Endgame. As a movie watcher I've never been much of a super hero movie fan due to how far-fetched they can be but the Marvel movies I enjoy because they do pretty well at making super hero stuff seem realistic. All the previous films before Infinity War and even Dr. Strange have had pretty good scientific explanations for how their powers work and what not but in this film it seems they just let loose with all the magical forces that are prevalent. Dr. Strange pretty much changed the dynamic of the marvel universe with all the stuff he can do and I got to say I liked it way better when there wasn't all this magic. One of the first scenes when they encounter Thanos's alien assistants has plenty of examples of bad physics.

The obvious flaw would be how Dr. Strange and the other wizard guy are fighting. They are able to levitate and fly around with no other force present it seems. They are also able to manipulate gravity it seems and turn it on and off. Whenever Dr. Strange is pinned against the building with bricks the other wizard is just floating upside down his hair doesn't even move as it should and when he throws Dr. Strange back on the street gravity seems to switch back on just like that. This is extremely unrealistic and hard to believe and I think it takes away from the movie quite a bit.
Another thing in this scene is flawed to me is Iron Mans new nanotech suit. This is the most advanced suit he has had yet by far. His suit uses nanotechnology and he's able to manipulate the atoms to any shape on the fly. I don't know much about nanotech or how possible it is but I really don't think it will be here in the next 100 years. Then again Tony Stark seems to be in another era of time with all the stuff he has invented.

In the Wakanda battle you get to see the use of war machine for the first time. He is able to bomb massive areas and unload rounds from his shoulder mounted machine guns. My concern is where is all the ammunition being stored for him to unload that many rounds. The suit seems to have the same firepower if not more than an F-16 fighter jet. When he bombs the area where the aliens are rushing in he drops a bunch little tiny bombs about the size of tube of chapstick and makes a massive explosion and the seems to have endless rounds stored somewhere on his suit.
Overall I give this movie a PGP-13 in terms of physics. It does pretty well at making things look realistic enough not to distract you.

  1. Remember, the assignment was to look for examples where Newton's Laws were violated. In fact, you were supposed to find at least 3 such examples. So, while I enjoy reading comments about, for instance, the nanotech in Tony Stark's suit or where War Machine stores all his ammunition, you haven't met the requirements of the assignment.
