Weapons of Mass Destruction

The scary reality of weapons of mass destruction

Ever since the development of the Atomic bomb in World War II the world has used over 2000 nuclear weapons for testing. After the war there everyone seemed to be in shock of this massive of a weapon. It wasn’t till a couple of years later when other countries started making their first nuclear weapons to keep their hold as a superpower. Later towards the Cold War a significant spike in the creation and testing of new nuclear weapons because the tensions rising between Russia and the United States. The times used has fluctuated throughout the past 70 years and has luckily slowed down significantly in the past 20 years.  There is obviously still the chance of another nuclear weapon being used in other reasons than just testing. This too me is very alarming and it’s one of those things people don’t like to talk about. The ongoing war with ISIS and terrorism seems to be never ending. I do not believe the middle eastern threat will ever bring us to use nuclear weapons.

All that I think about is the fact that we have used so many just 70 years after the first use. Radiation is something we have been pondering with all over the world as humans and it should not be in our hands as much as it is. For example the Chernobyl explosion that happened in 1986. During the time the Soviet Union was running tests at a Nuclear power plant and the core of one of the reactors exploded releasing massive amounts of radiation into the air. The plant today is still releasing massive amounts of radiation. This was one of the biggest nuclear accidents and really exposed how harmful radiation is. The fact that we have tested so many nuclear bombs just for war purposes is terrifying. The thought of how it can harm us in the long run doesn't seem to be thought of at all. It is very unnecessary. Since then the United States as the lead contributor to the number has stopped testing above ground to avoid releasing as much radiation.

Back in 1945 when we used the atomic bombs it seemed very necessary at the time and we may not have won the war without them. As decades go by and the advancement of these weapons increase it seems it should have stopped after the first use.

I give Fat Man and Little Boy a GP because the movie is based off of real events and there isn't many scenes that aren't talking about just development of the bombs.

  1. There are some good ideas here, and I appreciate the inclusion of some pictures. However, you need to work on your writing. There are grammatical errors and poorly constructed sentences that detract from the quality of your thoughts.
